Loch Lomond | Scotland’s Largest Lake

Loch Lomond has been on my to-visit list for a very long time. Two weeks ago, my friend Denisa and I finally packed our bags and went to see Scotland’s largest lake for ourselves. And let me tell you, it was worth it!

We got off at Tarbet Hotel bus station which is super close to the loch. It was only a little bit over an hour by bus from Glasgow City Centre and there were plenty buses leaving and coming during the day, which was pretty convenient.

Not only did we get to see this great lake, we also lucked out on the weather – it was a beautiful and sunny day, very unusual for Scotland. There were many people actually swimming in the lake.

Unfortunately, neither of us took our swimming suits. I was really gutted because the water looked so beautiful and tempting. Eventually I decided to go for a swim anyway, in my underwear. It surprised absolutely no one that our remote spot was suddenly visited by a group of German tourists in the exact moment when I decided to come out of the water, with my completely soaked underwear. That would happen to me, wouldn’t it?

Denisa was just happily watching me, finding the whole situation a little bit too funny.

We also went for a short walk around the hills. It was supposed to be all pleasant and enjoyable but it actually ended up with us accidentally crashing private property and then me failing to climb over a fence and ruining my new pants. (Again, Denisa found this hilarious.)

Despite all the unpredictable accidents, we really enjoyed our trip to Loch Lomond. We got to see more of Scotland and have a great weekend getaway. I definitely want to return one day – this time, maybe, with a swimming suit.

Have you ever been to Loch Lomond? Do you think I should find better friends who won’t laugh at my misery? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I am so sorry, but I couldn’t stop laughing reading this, haha. Also, I am jotting down places you visit in Scotland because I AM coming back! Beautiful photos xx (I do feel bad for your trousers though)
